Billboard Music Awards Vs. The Met Gala

Recently the Billboard Music Awards ceremony was held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Many artists set new records by the time the ceremony was over. However, the award show did not receive as much attention as the Met Gala did today.

The main reason that the Met Gala receives the attention is because of the outfits that the celebrities show up in. Although the gala serves as a fundraiser, the attention really falls on the outfits especially since there is always a theme for the event. The Billboard Music Awards isn't known for the outfits that the celebrities wear to the event. It is known for the awards which often draws people away. People like to look at the beautiful clothing that the designers have made.

 Not only does this help promote the event, it also allows designers to showcase their new designs on well known people. This marketing technique could be placed under testimonial because when people see celebrities endorsing a product, they believe that the product is something worth investing in. Another reason that the Met Gala may be more popular than the Billboard Music Awards is because it has been around more a number of years longer.

However many of the artists deserve to be given credit for their accomplishments. Drake became the top award recipient in BBMA history and surpassed Taylor Swift. BTS became the first K-Pop group to win top duo/group. There were many other many other artists that also made history.

    Do you think the Met Gala uses aesthetic appeal to sell glamorous lifestyles to people? The gala could very well be a private affair, but it is broadcasted all over the world. The Billboard Music Awards, in comparison, were not heavily advertised, and, like you mentioned, were not heavily attended. Maybe this is because an awards show is more impersonal than a gala filled with celebrities.

Matthew Boling breaks the 100 meter-dash high school record

Matthew Boling, dubbed White Lightning, first made headlines when he ran a 9.98 second 100 meter. However, this time wasn't official and was later disqualified from the history books because of the tailwind of 4.2 meters per second that the sprinters were running with. The legal wind limit is 2 meters. However, Boling proved skeptics wrong when he ran a 10.13 second 100 meter-dash on Saturday which broke the 100 meter dash high school record. He is currently a senior and will be attending the University of Georgia next year. I think it is incredible that he was able to break the high school record for a second time after his first time was disqualified. I honestly think that it is unfair to disqualify his first time from the records if they allowed for the tailwinds during the race. He couldn't control the weather on the day he was racing. Just last week, Marvel released one of the most anticipated films that the movie industry has possibly ever had. Endgame  grossed over a billion dollars in just the first week of its release which makes it the highest grossing film of the year. The rush to watch the movie was a result of many things including the fact that it is in my opinion, and in many other opinions, the most major film in the Marvel franchise, which is widely known in the movie industry.
