Madison and Vine

Image
Madison and Vine is one of the most interesting uses of advertising in the media industry, in my opinion. Madison and Vine is product placement in movies and TV shows. It is one of the most sly ways to persuade people to buy a product because they often don't even realize that it is a promotion of the product that a company is trying to sell. I have had many experiences with this type of advertisement and probably even more that I haven't noticed because the product is integrated so well. Some of the most obvious product placements in TV shows and movies are technology placements. I often spot them using Samsung phones or IPhones. Cars are another advertisement that I can spot when I am watching shows. However, I also believe that there is an addition to this form of advertisement now that YouTube has became so widely known. Advertisers will now pay YouTube influencers to endorse their product in exchange for money. I am not sure if this falls directly under Madison and Vine

End Game Spoilers?

Just last week, Marvel released one of the most anticipated films that the movie industry has possibly ever had. Endgame  grossed over a billion dollars in just the first week of its release which makes it the highest grossing film of the year. The rush to watch the movie was a result of many things including the fact that it is in my opinion, and in many other opinions, the most major film in the Marvel franchise, which is widely known in the movie industry. Another reason is because of the fear that people will spoil the movie for others. It wasn't uncommon for people to spoil Infinity War even when it had just been released, so people knew ahead of time to watch the movie when it was just released. A large reason for the popularity of the movie was because of the influence of social media as well as the advertising that was used to promote the movie. Marvel already has a lot of momentum in the industry for its comics as well as its movies. They have always had the most popula

Impeach the President?

Image
Washington Post Article Fox News Article Following the Mueller report that was released on April 18, talk about the possible impeachment of President Donald Trump has created a divide in the Democratic party. Both the Washington Post and Fox News wrote articles about how the House Democrats have decided to not open any immediate impeachment proceedings. This topic has created heated debates and discussions so I thought it would be interesting to get the perspectives of a generally left wing news outlet (Washington Post) and a right wing news outlet (Fox News) on the same topic. Obviously there was bound to be some differences in the discussions brought up in the articles as well as the language used by the different outlets. Because the recent discussion has been that there will be no immediate impeachment, the right wing has the more favorable view on the topic with the left wing being more split in their view. Before looking at the article, I assumed that the Fox New

The Fyre Festival

Image
Recently both Netflix and Hulu released documentaries on the infamous Fyre Festival, although the event took place back in 2017. The concept of this festival was created by Billy McFarland, the founder of Fyre Media Inc, in attempt to promote his new app that would help people book musicians. Through advertising and the use of social media platforms, such as Instagram, the Fyre Festival gained traction. However, the advertisements promised many things that the festival would not be. The advertisement video showed luxurious housing and food, when in reality there was no such thing. In the beginning they did attempt to fulfill what they had promised, but as the date of the event came closer, it became clear that they wouldn’t be able to do that. The private island that they had originally set to use fell through and they ended up on an island that could not accommodate everyone and wasn’t private. People spent hundreds of thousands of dollars for a luxury festival but when they r

Media's Influence On My Life

Image
Growing up in a generation that relies on media, I can say that most of my life has been influenced by different types of media. Although I do not have some of the most popular forms of social media, I am still greatly impacted by other types of media around me. I cannot get through a single day of my life without being exposed to some sort of media. Even the social media that I don't have still seems to find a way into my life. For awhile I didn't realize that the term media referred to so many things, from platforms like Instagram to ads on benches. There are so many things that fall under the word media, that it would almost be impossible to not be exposed to it. The most important source of media in my life is my phone because not only does it allow me to keep in touch with my friends, but it also allows me to see what other people are doing in the world and what big events are occurring somewhere else. Before the phone, or even newspapers, people wouldn't know what w
